3 strikes and you are out Skype!
Sorry Skype, this is your 3rd strike and you are now out! Skype used to be this rather cool applications that you could use to call and view friends and family around the world. But they have grown too large and too obnoxious. First strike was back when you decided to complete rewrite the user interface from a nice simpel contactlist to a full fledged application with a million options, buttons...

Pico: no more passwords! →
This guy got it just about right when he starts with: Passwords are no longer acceptable as a security mechanism. The arrogant security people ask users that passwords be memorable, unguessable, high entropy, all different and never written down. With the proliferation of the number of passwords and the ever-increasing brute-force capabilities of modern computers, passwords of adequate strength...

MySQL.com compromised using SQL injection →
To be honest, it’s not really the mysql database servers fault that developers still  make these mistakes. But seriously, it’s 2011 guys! :) Btw. several passwords to mysql.com have been cracked, for instance the director of product management apparently only use a 4 number password. And several admin passwords have also been cracked. So if you have an account, you probably want to...

Plex/Nine - Mini Review →
So, I wanted to try out some media center-ish solutions and started with Plex. But that is as far as I get, Plex is perfect (for me). I have a stationary computer with all my home video recording, children’s movies, photos and music. And there will be an old Mac Mini attached to the TV to record and view broadcasts. Plex did a brilliant move, they separated the Media App from the Media...

Its not that the hackers was exceptionally good, but the company did indeed fail to implement the most basic security best practices. I can’t believe that these people call themselves security experts - but its a very good story for the rest of us :)

I very often run into sites having performance problems. The typical story is some random open source cms installed, then heavily redesigned and installed with all sorts of modules. The result is a sluggish website that barely feels healthy with a couple of users visiting it. The real problem is when this website get popular (i.e.. mentioned in the news), the website becomes unresponsive and...

This is very interesting and will probably generate quite a bit of buzz. Personally I don’t use OpenBSD or their IPSEC implementation, but it’s definitely a very scary thought.

Alfred, Sparrow and Courier
I just want to share a couple of Mac apps I have stumbled upon. First is Alfred, an excellent simple and elegant app launcher (Spotlight replacement). I am by no means a hardcore Spotlight user (and never used any of the other fancy app launchers), but Alfred is just so nice and simple. Period. I don’t think I ever will look back at Spotlight. Secondly, there is Sparrow - a gmail reader...

Hetzner, FreeBSD and IPv6
So, I got this server at Hetzner and it’s running FreeBSD. Hetzner provides native IPv6 so I thought I would request a subnet and try it out. Little did I know, that it would be so tricky to get up and running. It seems that Hetzner is doing something a bit different. I got my IPv6 /64 but the default gateway is not in my subnet. The recommendation from Hetzner is to make a static route...

CoPilot for iPhone with Live Traffic
Just arrived home from a vacation to Hungary. We travelled from Denmark, through Germany, Austria and Hungary and because my old and trusted navigation (TomTom One) is beginning to act strangely, I decided to buy the CoPilot navigation app for the iPhone. My first impressions from a couple of small trips in Denmark was positive - CoPilot is easy and intuitive to use. All though the screen is...

So, in the aftershock from Steve Jobs’ comments about flash, there has been a lot of buzz on the Internet, from other sites stating they would drop flash and move towards HTML5. Talk about bad timing - hey, Adobe, next time you want to demo flash on a mobile device, make sure it actually works :)

Convert bitmap image to vector image
